RIP: Paul Hester 1959 - 2005
03.28.05 (7:15 pm)   [edit]
I was going to write a little bit about Paul Hester tonight: the drummer for Split Enz and Crowded House, (both of whom I adore), and who was found hanged from a tree in Elsternwick Park, Melbourne-Australia. Presumedly, he took his own life.

But...

BerlinBear beat me to the punch, and he did such a good job at it, I decided to just show you the way to his blog. (He's really got a great picture of Hester and is linked to several fine articles). Check it out.

I can remember the first time I heard Crowded House like it happened yesterday... but I will reserve that story for another time. In the meantime, it's no exaggeration to say that I'm a bit sad.

I heard about Hessey yesterday, it's sent shockwaves through the Australian and NZ music industry.

I heard an interview someone had done with Deborah Conway, who Hessey had dated many years back -- he was known throughout as a larrikin, but she said he was prone to sudden and severe bouts of depression...

It's a very huge loss, indeed.

Sad news indeed.

I may be playing "Don't Dream It's Over" and "I Got You" tonight in tribute.

Oh, I agree. I am deeply saddened. I was talking to Lindy earlier, and I cannot say enough how much his music has meant to me throughout the years. I was saddened to learn, not only of his death, but of the tragedy of his life.

You know what they say... the brightest stars are always the first to burn out.

Thanks for posting it on your blog too. Now you just have to write a letter to Tony Blair. :)

*blushes with all the attention*
Why thank you. Pity it wasn't a happier occasion to link to.

I agree. But perhaps it won't be the last time. I heard all about the connection you made between Winnie the Pooh and Trespassers William. That alone makes you someone I want to know more about.

Thanks for the inspiration. :)

Oh stop it! I've come over all blushy. News travels fast around tblog parts, doesn't it. I thought that link between W-t-P and Trespassers William was dead obvious, but obviously not, as noone else seems to have known. Great name, though I confess I don't even know the band.

They're a favorite of mine. I turned Lindy onto them and since music is kind of my thing, she shared your insight into their name.

To be honest, I had never considered the origin of their name before, but the moment I saw your response, I knew you had to be right.

Now she wants me to do a post on the origin of band names. He doesn't know it yet, but I'm going to recruit my good friend shadowmusic into helping me come up with something lovely.

See what you started? ;-)
