posted by: altricial (reply) post date: 03.22.05 (6:39 pm) 1) If You Leave, OMD You got me on the rest.... posted by: shadowmusic (reply) post date: 03.22.05 (7:49 pm) Hmm.... since these are among my favorite songs/bands, rather than ruin it for everybody else, I'll geekily code out my answer by abbreviating title & artist where I'll write "A" when I mean "B", "B" when I mean "C", etc.: NLC:HXK CL:HVXM JA:SVV (although for some reason I initially thought it might've been her first single, whose title would be encoded as VG) posted by: shadowmusic (reply) post date: 03.22.05 (8:08 pm) BTW: Did anybody else recognize that songs #1 and #3 were prominent in popular '80s films? See my previous note about abbreviating & encoding. Song #1 was in "O H O" and Song #3 was in "R G Z A". Is that enough of a hint for anybody else to figure out which movies I'm talking about? posted by: juniperflux (reply) post date: 03.22.05 (8:24 pm) Reply to: shadowmusic I don't even have to work out your little codes to know you have them. After I posted the links, I thought "this is a bit skewed in favor of *some* people." :) To be honest, I doubt I could EVER stump you, but I'm going to wokr on it. posted by: juniperflux (reply) post date: 03.22.05 (8:26 pm) Reply to: juniperflux BTW ~ I had not made the film connection that you mentioned. I'd be interested in knowing which ones you had in mind. j posted by: juniperflux (reply) post date: 03.22.05 (8:52 pm) Reply to: altricial Really? I thought they would be WAY easy. But... then again... they are sort of skewed towards my own faves, which may not line up next to everyone's. Thanks for playing, though! :) posted by: zuki50 (reply) post date: 03.22.05 (10:20 pm) The first one is "If You Leave"-Orchestral Manoeuvers in the Dark (my uncle was an 80's flamer and I heard this song over and over and over, as well as anything by George Michael when I was around him) No clue on the second one, but the voice kinda sounds like the one from Moody Blues. I dont know You got me on the third one too....I have no clue what the song is, but it sounds like Kate Bush. posted by: juniperflux (reply) post date: 03.22.05 (10:21 pm) Reply to: zuki50 Good guesses... although I'm afraid you're off the mark on #2. Excellent work on #'s 1 & 3 though. I have to admit #2 is kind of obscure. You'd have to be a fan of the band to know it... it was not a hit. Thanks bunches for the comment. j posted by: zuki50 (reply) post date: 03.22.05 (10:25 pm) Reply to: juniperflux (:-) Since you first put that blog up today, I have had #1 going through my head, as well as great lines like, "I want your sex," and "if you want my body, and you think I'm sexy, come on baby let me know." lmao posted by: juniperflux (reply) post date: 03.22.05 (10:26 pm) Reply to: zuki50 Well, I'm not sure I would classify those as *great* lines, but they certainly transport me back in time. Amazing the music we listened to. :) posted by: zuki50 (reply) post date: 03.22.05 (10:32 pm) Reply to: juniperflux Well, I made the best out of my situation....when your gay uncle is taking care of you during the day and all he does is jam out to the 80's, you have to learn to like stuff like that. lol posted by: juniperflux (reply) post date: 03.22.05 (10:34 pm) Reply to: zuki50 Hey now, that's what I call making lemonade out of the proverbial lemon. :) Actually, I LOVED George Michael back in "the day." But shhhhhhhh... Don't tell anyone. :) posted by: aqualung (reply) post date: 03.23.05 (11:17 am) these are entirely too easy, jflux. a. if you leave by omd b. i want you now by dm c. womens' work by kb i'm really surprised more ppl haven't gotten these. posted by: juniperflux (reply) post date: 03.23.05 (11:24 am) Reply to: aqualung AQ ~ I have to admit, I too am pretty surprised that more people haven't gotten them. The fact that you did tells me a lot about you. But I'm still curious. Do I know you? j posted by: brogonzo (reply) post date: 03.23.05 (3:53 pm) Damn. I'm stumped, J. posted by: juniperflux (reply) post date: 03.23.05 (3:54 pm) Reply to: brogonzo You don't know ANY of them????? I find that impossible, Ian. Totally beyond the realm of possibility. j posted by: brogonzo (reply) post date: 03.23.05 (3:56 pm) Reply to: juniperflux They really just ring very faint bells in the back of my head... I guess my '80s music knowledge is more in tune with folks like Ratt, unfortunately ;) posted by: lindy (reply) post date: 03.23.05 (3:58 pm) Oh man. well #1 and #2 are easy. #1 is OMD 'If you leave' (I *think* is the title to that overplayed 80s tune) featured in the wonderfully 80s movie 'Pretty in Pink' starring one of my fav brat packers, Molly Ringwald... #2... hello! Depeche Mode, Demi Gods themselves... 'I want you now' one of the lesser known tracks from the 'Music for the Masses' album... when was that? 1987? I have always considered that one of the great make out songs of all time, though I seem to have that reaction with just about every DM song there ever was. The John Wayne music in the back of this track has always fascinated me. Do you know what I mean when I say this? To my shame, I can not get #3. The voice is rather Tori Amos, but I confess I am at a loss. So 2 outta 3 ain't bad. loooool. Name that tune! posted by: juniperflux (reply) post date: 03.23.05 (3:58 pm) Reply to: brogonzo I'll have to do some hairband trivia... just for you. :) posted by: lindy (reply) post date: 03.23.05 (4:16 pm) I see what you mean about the timid readership of Juniperflux. It could be that music trivia is just too much of a risk for people who have... rejection issues! looooool. Goody. Let's make it harder next time. posted by: lindy (reply) post date: 03.23.05 (4:17 pm) Reply to: shadowmusic Well, the first movie reference was pretty easy. I'm sitting here staring at the letters for the other one (even wrote them down and plopped them in front of my face) but... it seems it would be an awfully long title given the number of words... anymore hints? posted by: almsthvn (reply) post date: 03.24.05 (10:00 am) Great little quiz, Juni! Is 3 Kate Bush or Tori Amos? posted by: juniperflux (reply) post date: 03.24.05 (10:09 am) Reply to: almsthvn You had it right the first time. I plan to do some more name that tune... soon. :) j posted by: lindy (reply) post date: 03.24.05 (10:49 am) Oh good. I wasn't the only one who made the Tori Amos/Kate Bush connection. Feel better now. :) posted by: shadowmusic (reply) post date: 03.25.05 (3:49 am) Reply to: lindy Kate Bush's "This Woman's Work" appeared on the "She's Having a Baby" soundtrack. posted by: lindy (reply) post date: 03.25.05 (7:25 am) Reply to: shadowmusic ahhh. A much shorter title then what was running around in my head. Thank you. You are astonishing. I am sure you know this. :) posted by: juniperflux (reply) post date: 03.25.05 (9:17 am) Reply to: lindy I fully second that, Lindy. He is astounding. :) j posted by: shadowmusic (reply) post date: 03.25.05 (9:24 am) Reply to: lindy & juniperflux *blushes* :-) posted by: juniperflux (reply) post date: 03.25.05 (9:25 am) Reply to: shadowmusic You know it's true.
