I'll Be Watching You...
02.17.05 (2:24 pm)   [edit]
There's a fine line between love and obsession, and I know I'm not the only one who has felt their toes uneasily dangle over that edge at one time or another. Luckily, for *most* of us, we wise up before going too far ... but for those who still need a little fix for their inner stalker, there are always songs that cross the line for you ~ allowing you to satisfy your urge to get a little crazy without having to also get a little incarcerated in the process.

To be honest, I was planning to do a 'worst of' love song list after our trip down candycane lane, but the ever lovely chicalookate suggested we talk about songs that seem like love songs at the onset but that eventually cross the line, slowly transforming into full fledged stalker music. In response, shadowmusic jumped right on that bandwagon and quickly offered Billie Holiday's "You're Gonna See a Lot of Me" while Kate chimed in with The Police classic "Every Breath You Take." Personally, I LOVE this topic and cannot wait to see what other songs slowly skulk their way out of the shadows and reveal themselves as the greatest stalker music of all time. Note: providing lyrics (even partial) as shadowmusic did would be a great addition to this list!

Ok. Tag! You're it!

Okay... I'm half convinced that if a guy suggested this topic we'd be strung up...

'the more you ignore me, the closer i get' by morrissey

'beware!
i bear more grudges
than lonely high court judges
when you sleep, i will creep
into your thoughts
like a bad debt that you can't pay
take the easy way and give in
yeah, and let me in...'

btw, when i hear this song, i think of morrissey dancing with a corpse or mannequin with smeared lipstick in an old prom frock... LOL!

A Google search turned up this list of great stalker songs, including The Beatles' "Run for Your Life" and Blondie's "One Way or Another":

the greatest stalker song is "wherever you will go" or that clay walker song about watching you in in your room. i can't remember how it goes.

Yeah!!! Some good suggestions here.
Possession .... Sarah McLachlan
Run For Your Life .... the Beatles (this song creeps me out like no other)
Obsession .... Animotion

Also the song "Baby It's Cold Outside" is a little disturbing. "Hey what's in this dring?" just doesn't work for me.

ok, maybe it doesn't sound like a love song at all in any way shape or form, but its FREAKY like a STALKER....Subway Song...by none other than - you guessed it - The Cure!
