Jenny Green
10.07.05 (2:55 am)   [edit]
If I'd been Jenny Green
we'd have pedaled to the place
where the trees smell different
and the wet streets sound strange
against our tires. We'd ride until
the rain drove us back and
our mothers called us home.

And maybe, your field would've been ours
and after sandwiches in paper bags
we'd search the skies for faces
and you'd teach me the names of birds.
Later, you'd pick the parsley from my hair
and we'd each make a wish before
blowing brown lashes into the breeze.

If I'd been Jenny Green
I'd have climbed your garden wall,
slipped past the eager goalie
and run up the stairs to your room
where I'd hear bells.
Afterwards, you'd take my hand
and we'd jump ~ out your open window.

And maybe, my island would become ours
and we'd mark the passing of midnights
with the pleasure of promises fulfilled.
Until, at last, all that remained would be us
conjoined and complete in flesh, stone and wood.
No less whole than the circle 'round your finger.
No less beautiful than if I'd been Jenny Green.

I have a bike *nods eagerly*

and... and... it does really well on wet streets, uh huh. it does... and.. and... blueberry streets. Yes, it does well on those too.

Not sure about islands... *checks owner's manual*

I'm sure I don't have to tell you this is a lovely poem, Jennifer. Regardless of my own developing 'stuff'... I still want to be a little piece of that parsley that he didn't notice...

assuming parsely has eyes, of course. No, scratch that... I prefer ears...

*giggle* @ blueberry streets. Are there any other kind?

"I still want to be a little piece of that parsley that he didn't notice..."

I like the idea of having a little of you to carry around always. That's a fabulous notion indeed.

Thanks for stopping by... the silence 'round these parts was beginning to be worrisome.

We've all three been pretty silent, huh?

Do you know, sometimes, I come here to watch your email flap?

It's like an always opening door.

*giggle*

I find the entire notion of letterboxes to be terribly romantic, I'm afraid.

Besides, I'm just glad *something* still draws you here.

*wink*
