Feeling how I feel now about the war, I can't fathom going. posted by: newbie (reply) post date: 06.26.05 (12:53 am) Nice one. Good to see you getting political on here (first time, I think(?), since I started reading your blog a few months ago). And this definitely a point worth making. Good on you juni! posted by: juniperflux (reply) post date: 06.26.05 (1:01 am) Reply to: Lindy :) Thanks, kiddo. posted by: juniperflux (reply) post date: 06.26.05 (1:02 am) Reply to: billlyryan I simply cannot imagine someone as gentle in spirit as you in the marines. I'm so thankful that you are not over there, BillllllllyRyan. We need you right here. :) posted by: juniperflux (reply) post date: 06.26.05 (1:06 am) Reply to: newbie (BB??) I think I've gone political maybe one other time in my tenure here at the big T(blog). I usually stay away from such topics as I find that they often lead to shouting and such. However, yesterday, I was just feeling particularly grumpy and disillusioned... then I ran across the video (which was put out by a group of Quakers just trying to promote peace in the world) and I couldn't help but link to them. Thanks for the vote of confidence. posted by: billlyryan (reply) post date: 06.26.05 (7:45 pm) Reply to: juniperflux Well I was pretty much a loser when I joined (Not much different now!) so joining made sense. I liked how it gave me a sense of purpose for the first time ever. But people call me "marshmallow" and "cream puff" anymore anyway! I still think about joining again, just to have that sense of purpose. You know? posted by: lindy (reply) post date: 06.29.05 (12:13 pm) Don't mind me... I just stop in here several times a minute when I see you on line... Just wondering if I'll happen along and find some new something or other... la di da... ;) posted by: brogonzo (reply) post date: 06.29.05 (2:29 pm) I've been a rotten blogfriend lately, so first, I'm sorry. Anyway, on to your post. We're winning the war -- oops, I mean, the War on Terror, huh? This would be the same Donald Rumsfeld who suggested that we would be in Iraq for the next 12 years, right? But that's not the point. Having a war on terror is like having a war on anger, or on helplessness, or on sadness, or on injustice. Just by framing the conflict in language like that, the administration has set themselves up for failure. Even the more specific "War on Terrorism" is ludicrous, because not only will terrorism always exist, those countries who are actually actively involved in terrorism will count what's gone on in Iraq as a victory for themselves if and when we DO leave, if we do so before bombing the mortal shit out of every country between Pakistan and Morocco. But the language we use to talk about what's going on doesn't really reflect reality, does it? No -- the words that are used by our REPRESENTATIVES are words designed to have the most mass-market appeal. This situation has become untenable, and the faster we can help Iraq become self-sufficient - and I do think that's possible - the faster we can get our asses out of there. As long as we're "exporting freedom," why don't we take some time to make sure our own citizens have enough freedom to go around. Posting the Ten Commandments up and banning the burning of the American flag surely aren't steps in the direction of "freedom." posted by: lindy (reply) post date: 07.03.05 (11:13 pm) Reply to: brogonzo I read this comment from you, Ian, and my response to it was rather... succinct... 'wow.' I've taken some heat for airing that video, as have some of my tblog friends. I get a bit tongue tied in that what I see as a senseless loss of life, gets all twisted into political agendas, etc. It is difficult to argue all that junk - well, for me it is, but I'm sure this doesn't come as a surprise to you. :) Thank you for leaving this comment. It needed to be said and I hope many see it. posted by: Christopher A. Mayes (reply) post date: 07.07.05 (8:41 pm) Reply to: brogonzo Wow, Ian. Believe it or not I am fairly surprised by your comment - well, I suppose that may be due to my 'ignorant' nature in believing that ALL member of the military support the war. I have had numerous conversations with soldiers, however, that have said the same thing. I suppose that they may be speaking mostly on the tag-line of the war. You are correct in saying that this war cannot be won. We have already given up many of our freedoms and liberties to Emperialize...and in my view, we have already given the terrorists what they were looking for. This just a long drawn out comment of agreement. lol posted by: Marairia (reply) post date: 03.14.08 (5:29 pm) It regulates the money price of labour, which must always be such of the capital employed in it, and which is of such a nature, posted by: Regfabecca (reply) post date: 03.14.08 (5:29 pm) generally sufficient to replace that of many manufacturers, this them became the business of a peculiar trade and some by that of those who posted by: Heldbten (reply) post date: 03.15.08 (3:08 pm) for it its nominal price, in the quantity of money.
