BTW this one is approx- 3"x5" in dimension done in india ink pen and crayola crayons... on premium sketching paper. Drawn with LOVE. How's that for details???? posted by: juniperflux (reply) post date: 05.23.04 (10:22 am) Haaaa... thank heaven!! I was starting to develop a nervous tick from not knowing the precise dimensions! :) I admit it. I'm not well! posted by: brogonzo (reply) post date: 05.23.04 (10:52 am) I like the legs. One part bird? ;) Seriously though, it's great! The face is particularly captivating -- in an otherwise whimsical drawing, there's this cynical look. The big eyes remind me of old eastern/byzantine art, where the spirit was depicted by making the eyes large and mesmerizing. posted by: ReBorn (reply) post date: 05.23.04 (11:01 am) :)) posted by: SheSpecies (reply) post date: 05.23.04 (4:08 pm) That is too cute. The forensic kit got a raised eyebrow over here but I'm beginning to get the gist of why it's in the portrait. ;-) posted by: juniperflux (reply) post date: 05.23.04 (8:36 pm) Reply to: SheSpecies well... you know what they say... "the devil's in the details" - right? ;-) posted by: chicalookate (reply) post date: 05.24.04 (3:37 am) I thought this was great. I love her portraits. The forensic kit is my favorite detail. posted by: juniperflux (reply) post date: 05.24.04 (9:37 am) Reply to: brogonzo You're right. The eyes definitely have it. She did a great job. (My eyes are actually green too! ~ She must have been channeling my spirit!) :) posted by: juniperflux (reply) post date: 05.24.04 (3:11 pm) Reply to: chicalookate It's terrific, isn't it? I did a couple months of study on byzantine art in highschool but had forgotten all about it! It must be coming through in the portraits because those eyes keep showing up! posted by: brogonzo (reply) post date: 05.30.04 (9:05 am) Reply to: islandArtist If I remember correctly, Byzantine artists moved away from "realistic" depictions of their subjects, and tried instead to represent the soul. So you see Near-Eastern Madonnas and Christs with a more two-dimensional look, but with large, soulful eyes. They also used a lot of symbols -- objects that told something about the subject.... just like Jennifer's magnifying glass and forensic kit. posted by: islandArtist (reply) post date: 05.30.04 (9:14 pm) Reply to: brogonzo You are a fountain of knowlege aren't you??? It's very appropriate description for all of my charicatures... Thanks for the info! |
