I listen to boring old mainstream stuff and don't get out much. ;) posted by: juniperflux (reply) post date: 03.25.04 (1:03 pm) Reply to: dumblondegirl Well... we'll just have to change all that. ;-) posted by: jenxer (reply) post date: 03.25.04 (2:22 pm) I'll have to think on this one. I always buy cds when I go to shows, but the problem is that the last few shows I've seen were old people like Daniel Ash and he's mainstream. I need to get out more. I'm living in a hotbed of musical talent too. You're inspiring me to open my ears and get back out there. posted by: blondebondgirl (reply) post date: 03.25.04 (4:42 pm) Oki, here i go... 1) BREE SHARP - pop/folk she's my favorite singer. i found out about her through a soundtrack i got, shes amazing and not many people know her if you like that kind of stuff. her most known song is "david duchovny" which was featured in the xfiles i believe. the link to her site is in my blog its: www.breesharp.com posted by: blondebondgirl (reply) post date: 03.25.04 (4:47 pm) 2) Lexi Street - southern pop she's really cool. she came to my school to perform but i missed her the week she came. but i got a hold of her cd and its awesome. shes got a southern soft pop sound to her. and her song "missing out" is a killer. www.lexistreet.com posted by: blondebondgirl (reply) post date: 03.25.04 (4:48 pm) Oh, heres a pic of Bree Sharp performing live:
posted by: blondebondgirl (reply) post date: 03.25.04 (4:51 pm) 3) The Flaming Lips - pop/remix/technoish they've got a unique sound and are pretty good. i dont know how known they are though, but i love them. definately check them out if you havent heard them yet. just to give it a spin. posted by: blondebondgirl (reply) post date: 03.25.04 (4:52 pm) 4) Rooney - pop/alternative i love these guys. the lead singer is robert carmen (swartzman, jason swartzman's brother). i watch the o.c. and they came on live to perform. they're pretty cool. i like their song. they're starting to get the word out about them. posted by: blondebondgirl (reply) post date: 03.25.04 (4:53 pm) 5) Tara MacLean - soft pop she's your typical soft pop singer but very unheard of. she's pretty good, i like her voice. its soothing. posted by: blondebondgirl (reply) post date: 03.25.04 (4:56 pm) 6) SHEA SEGER - pop LAST BUT NOT LEAST this chic is my new "it" singer. shes very unheard of, i by luck stumbled across her CD in the radio station i work at. she's amazing. and completely addicting. check her out!!!! www.sheaseger.com here's a pic of Shea::: ![]() and this is her album cover:

My favorite (also friends of mine) is flexible bullit. They have some mp3's on the website at www.flexiblebullit.com. Another one I like is Audio Kombat Arsenal. They are heavier, but have a pretty unique sound. I think they have some mp3's also at www.thearsenal.net. Unfortunately, they just lost their singer. These bands are both great live. Hopefully someday they will become better known! Both links are also on my blog. posted by: hardtoimagine (reply) post date: 03.25.04 (5:05 pm) I have a couple of local Kansas City bands if you like hard rock/heavy metal. I would have said OAR (Of A Revolution, reggae/rock/folk), but apparently they've just signed with a member of the Evil Empire. posted by: brogonzo (reply) post date: 03.25.04 (5:32 pm) Oh yeah, and Ignite, a political punk group featuring a Hungarian lead singer. By the way, Meg just sent me a news article about how Bret Michaels (of Poison fame) is now finishing up the details of his new country album, featuring a "down-home" version of "Every Rose has its Thorn." posted by: DragonBait22 (reply) post date: 03.25.04 (5:43 pm) How cool, I don't think I've ever been anyone's muse before. :) Here are some of my recommendations: Aztec Camera- 80s alternative/pop, I suppose, mostly acoustic. Excellent stuff. Fleming & John- I would say Indie rock, if they are at all classifiable, but they are also considered Christian (and I'm not Christian, so don't let that affect your opinion). Fleming has a very unique and amazing voice and their music is great, though it does take a bit of getting used to. Big Head Todd & the Monsters- Alternative, some songs border on country (I can't stand country, so don't let that throw you off, either). Very good chill music. The The- Wonderful 80s rock band, chilling vocals and insightful lyrics. Nina Simone- a Jazz singer with an incredible voice, very unique. Hoodoo Gurus- another 80s alternative band, very upbeat with great music and lyrics. And I'll leave it at that, for now, anyway. ;) posted by: DragonBait22 (reply) post date: 03.25.04 (5:44 pm) Whoops, sorry about the bolded ending there. :) posted by: chicalookate (reply) post date: 03.25.04 (6:17 pm) Great topic. I know I could think of more, but my cd's aren't near at hand.... so here are just a few. I really enjoy Frank Bango... reminds me a bit of Elvis Costello, but just a little. Kate Rusby.. British Folk. Has an amazing voice. Ke Only had one album out (Strange World), but it is one I can play over and over. His voice defies description. Annie Minogue... not Kylie's sister. Another great voice. I find all sorts of new music on http://www.cdbaby.com which is all independent unsigned artists... or well known artists on independent side projects. I love it because they let you listen to 1-2 minutes of a song and often can hear parts of all the songs on an album. I have found some great cds there. And I love that the artist gets more money per cd than they would through a record label. posted by: OoLostEntity (reply) post date: 03.25.04 (8:06 pm) WOW this is hugggggggge, yeah indy shit is teh best out there :) posted by: Provocateur (reply) post date: 03.25.04 (8:09 pm) these are the type bands Ear-X-tacy promote posted by: irishred (reply) post date: 03.25.04 (9:56 pm) This blog is amazing. It is so informative and well written. I love coming here and reading your thoughts. Thank you for this. :) posted by: DarkMood (reply) post date: 03.25.04 (10:51 pm) I would have to say old school music here for me. Ramones or the tribute to the Ramones. I like the way it was done. Each band that did a track actually did in their own style. Not the style of the Ramones. U2's version of Beat on the Brat was great as well as Marilyn Manson's version of The KKK took my Baby Away. Great Blog posted by: jenxer (reply) post date: 03.26.04 (9:27 am) Reply to: DragonBait22 Is Nina Simone Indie? posted by: jenxer (reply) post date: 03.26.04 (9:35 am) I recommend Alcohol Funnycar. I've seen them a few times and would say their genre is suedo punk. Not as hard and fast paced as Dead Kennedys, but not the typical rock. I also would put Sunny Day Real Estate in this catagory, but don't like them quite as much. I think Sunny Day Real Estate made it on the radio though; so that wouldn't count. Love Codeine, but they've broken up now. Codeine was my other favorate band to see on a fairly regular basis. Codeine is more slow paced; not sure how to describe it. Their Frigid Stars LP was my favorite. http://www.subpop.com/bands/codeine/codeine.html for more Codeine info. posted by: jenxer (reply) post date: 03.26.04 (9:55 am) I forgot to mention my very favorite grunge-type band of all time. I don't listen to them unless I am in a particular mood, but still faithfully get their albums. And that is Fugazi. I will never forget the first time I heard Margin Walker or the first time I went to a show of theirs. Good times. Anyhow, they are on my Indie Hit List. posted by: DragonBait22 (reply) post date: 03.26.04 (12:03 pm) Reply to: jenxer I don't know, actually. posted by: juniperflux (reply) post date: 03.26.04 (12:11 pm) Reply to: blondebondgirl whoa! I have to go with jenxer with this one though, Nina was signed to a major label and was QUITE well known in the jazz/blues world. She died last year, however. posted by: juniperflux (reply) post date: 03.26.04 (12:17 pm) Reply to: chicalookate I actually did an ENTIRE entry on CD baby about a month ago. Big Head Todd was also fairly popular for a little while, but few know of them, same with Sunny Day Real Estate, as jenxer mentioned. :) posted by: dangerkitty (reply) post date: 03.26.04 (12:42 pm) Sorry for the large image. Thought I was linking to a smaller photo. Do you like The Unicorns? posted by: jenxer (reply) post date: 03.26.04 (1:33 pm) I thought of another one. Actually I have thought of many, but some I am not sure if they are so worthy or how far they got in their popularity. Anyhow, this is one I am not sure of, but have been listening to for several years. Air - I don't know who they are signed with. They are French, I think. They play lounge electronica. I am going to see them in April for the first time. I can only hope their show is good. I'll have to report back. posted by: chicalookate (reply) post date: 03.26.04 (2:13 pm) Reply to: DragonBait22 I don't know if I have ever met anyone else who even knew who Hoodoo Gurus were. Their website should tell you all about their music. posted by: DragonBait22 (reply) post date: 03.26.04 (5:32 pm) Reply to: chicalookate Neither have I, and fun is definitely a good way to describe Hoodoo Gurus. :) posted by: juniperflux (reply) post date: 03.28.04 (6:25 am) Reply to: dangerkitty Woo Hoo!
